The Mumbai Indians have proved everyone wrong and managed to qualify for the playoffs of IPL 2023. The Rohit Sharma-led side was hit by a spate of injuries leading up to the 2023 season. But their Indian uncapped players have stepped up to fill the void. The likes of Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera and Akash Madhwal have delivered the goods for the franchise. MI finished in fourth place in IPL 2022 with eight wins and six losses and ended with 16 points.
Rohit said that the likes of Varma, Vadhera and the likes will grow up to become future superstars of MI in a couple of years. He also said that they will become big match-winners for India as well. “Honestly it’s going to be the same story what has happened with (Jasprit) Bumrah, Hardik (Pandya) and all these guys. That’s the same story that will happen with guys like Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera,” Rohit said on Jio Cinema.

“Watch the next two years, then people will say ‘arey ye toh superstar team hai (they’re a team full of superstars)’. These guys are being scouted and they are trained. These two guys are gonna be huge stars for us, and for India,” he added. MI was hit with injuries to Jhye Richardson and Jasprit Bumrah at the start of the season. Jofra Archer also left the MI side midway through the season due to persistent issues with his elbow.
Nehal Wadhera has been a valuable left-hand option in the middle order for MI. His batting has been impressive throughout the season so far. In the 12 matches that he has played, the 22-year-old has scored 214 runs at a cracking strike rate of 141.72. Madhwal also has impressed with his death-bowling heroics for MI. The right-arm pacer has picked up eight wickets in six games for the franchise. MI and Lucknow Super Giants will face off in the all-important eliminator on May 24.
