‘If there is someone to be left out…’- Former India cricketer gives a crude warning to Shubman Gill after his failures against Sri Lanka

India lost the second T20 at Pune by 16 runs and Sri Lanka. Though India had some good performances from Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav with the bat. The one who did not look like his usual self was Shubaman Gill. The right-hander got out to poor shot selection. He was dismissed trying to pull a ball that was not short and then chipped the ball to mid-on where the catch was taken.

When he got out India were staring down the barrel at 21-2 in a chase of 207. Gill has not got going in the T20 series. He has got scores of five and seven in the two T20s. With his failure to deliver he might be out of the team for the third T20. Ajay Jadeja was fuming with the way Gill was dismissed in both games. Gill in contrast had a good Indian T20 League in 2022 for the Gujarat side where he scored 483 runs in 16 matches in Gujarat’s title-winning campaign.

Gill has to grab his opportunities-  Dinesh Karthik

“If there’s someone who has to be left out, it has to be Shubman Gill. The last couple of innings, the way he got out, you don’t expect that from him. If you want to play aggressive cricket, then that’s probably the replacement you should be looking at.” Jadeja said on Cricbuzz.

Dinesh Karthik also gave his views on Gill on Cricbuzz with Jadeja. Karthik has worked with Gill at Kolkata where he has seen him in the flesh and knows what the right-hander is made up of. He also had a word of caution to Gill as he said that he must capitalise on the opportunities given to him and deliver.

“This is what happens when you have a lot of talent. You tend to showcase your talent to the world and then when you sometimes get out to a soft dismissal, you tend to attract a lot of flak. Karthik added. “He (Gill) is a special player and has the potential to produce special performances. The kind of competition that’s around, like Ruturaj Gaikwad and others, you have to grab your opportunities.”
