The Indian Premier League has been one of the best T20 competitions over the years. It has produced a lot of wonderful players and still continues to churn out more gems in the cricketing world. Virat Kohli took social media by storm when he said that Ambati Rayudu is one of the most underrated players in IPL. Rayudu has played in the tournament for a long time and is still going strong.

The Hyderabad batter has scored 4264 runs in the competition. He has an average of 29 and a strike rate of 127.43. The right-handed batter has made 22 fifties and one hundred. He has the highest score of 100 not out in the tournament. Rayudu played a middle-order role when he was with Mumbai Indians and, a dual role of middle-order batting and opening for Chennai Super Kings. As soon as Kohli made the statement, there was a frenzy of comments.

Vijay Shankar was selected ahead of Ambati Rayudu in the 2019 World Cup

Some people were quick to point out that Kohli did not use the services of Rayudu in the 2019 World Cup at number 4 despite him having had a consistent run until the tournament. India, in a sudden change, went for Vijay Shakar instead of Rayudu. This last-minute snub had hurt the cricketer to no end. The reason that the then chairman of selectors MSK Prasad gave was that Vijay Shankar was a ‘3D player’

This created a big controversy at that time. Rayudu trended on social media because of his 3D glasses tweet. Prasad said that Shankar could help India with batting, in the field, and also with the ball with his gentle medium pace, which could create an impact in England. Shakar did get the wicket of Imam-ul-Haq against Pakistan, but he also got injured during the course of the tournament and Rishabh Pant took his place.

The Men in Blue made it to the semi-finals of the tournament. But India lost to New Zealand in a hard-fought game that lasted over two days. The decisive moment was when MS Dhoni was run out by Martin Guptill, which won the Kiwis the game. The Men in Blue will look to win the ODI World Cup in 2023 on home soil.
