India and South Africa are playing the series decider in Delhi. The third ODI of the series is being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The heartwarming thing is that the ODI squad picked up for this ODI series is filled with youngsters. This is because the senior players are in Australia preparing for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup.
In the first game, India’s heroes with the bat were Sanju Samson and Shardul Thakur, who scored 86 off 63 balls and 33 from 31 balls, respectively, to give India a superb chance in a chase that was dead and buried. The Men in Blue lost that encounter by just nine runs. In the second fixture, when India was down in the dumps at 48-2, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer resurrected the Indian innings with a superb 161-run partnership which helped India get to the target of 279 runs.
Shreyas Iyer scored a splendid 113 off 111 balls and Kishan smashed a superb 93 off 84 balls in the chase. Mohammed Siraj also picked up three wickets, which derailed South Africa’s innings in the last 10 overs.
Ahead of the third ODI, Wasim Jaffer said that the series decider will be very important for the young guns of Indian cricket, as good performances in a crunch game will help them to make a strong case for their selection going forward. He added that runs and wickets under their belt will always help them.
Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo ahead of the game, Jaffer said that there is a lot on the line for the players as they will be trying to make one final case for themselves before the focus shifts to the T20 World Cup in Australia. “All these youngsters who are playing the game, there is a lot on the line for them for the future series, for the future selections. Another good performance from them will highlight their selections in the future games and there is a series on the line as well,” Jaffer said.
