In any event, where India and Pakistan compete, there is always a lot of excitement. The fact that the two arch-rivals only meet in big multi-team tournaments, adds to the excitement of the clash. Not only the fans but also the players are pumped to compete. On October 23rd, India and Pakistan will face off again in the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
Rishabh Pant, the star Indian cricketer, has admitted that nothing beats facing Pakistan on the big stage. The left-hander is hoping for another chance when the arch-rivals meet on Sunday. While Pant appears to be competing with veteran Dinesh Karthik for the wicketkeeping position in India’s XI, the 25-year-old could still play as a specialist batter if selectors decide to bolster their middle-order for the match.
Pant had the opportunity to face Pakistan in the 20-20 World Cup last year when the two teams met in Dubai. Nothing compares to the experience of taking the field against their biggest rival, according to one of India’s many rising stars.
“It’s always special playing against Pakistan because there is a special hype around that match as always. There are so much emotions involved, not only for us, but the fans and everyone. It’s a different kind of feeling, a different kind of ambience when you go on to the field and when you take on the field, you see people cheering here and there. It’s a different atmosphere and when we were singing our national anthem, I actually get goosebumps,” Pant said.
Pant is hoping for the opportunity to rekindle his batting partnership with Virat Kohli at the MCG this Sunday. “He (Kohli) can actually teach you how to go through situations, which might help you in your cricket journey going forward, so it is nice batting with him as always,” Pant said.
“It’s good to have someone with a lot of experience batting with you because he can take you through how to take the game on and how to maintain that run-a-ball pressure kind of thing,” he added.
