Suryakumar Yadav, India’s trusted middle order batter, is in blistering form and after toiling hard for India in the 20-20 World Cup 2022, the batter is all set to don the blue jersey against New Zealand in the upcoming three-match T20I series set to get underway on November 18, Friday.

However, the talented batter failed to accumulate runs in crucial matches against Pakistan and England in the recently concluded multinational tournament, drawing criticism from all ends of the world. A few went on to call him a ‘minnow basher’ on account of his failures against the top sides and the upcoming series against the Black Caps can come as the testing phase for the Indian star.

As things stand, Wasim Jaffer, the former Indian cricketer, reviewed Suryakumar’s performances in the showpiece event and was sceptical of his performances against the two heavyweights. Although Jaffer was critical of the batter’s performances against England and Pakistan, he lauded Suryakumar for performing well against other teams.

For the unversed, while the right-handed batter scored 15 runs in the match against Pakistan, his 10-ball 14 against England in the knockouts drew more criticism as it was a crucial match.

When he fails, the batting order fails: Wasim Jaffer

While Jaffer did not hesitate to condemn the player for his non-performance against the Three Lions and the Men in Green, he said that when Suryakumar fails to deliver for the team, the batting order fails as well.

“If I have to be a little bit critical, the two games in which we needed him he has failed in that — against Pakistan and England. I will be talking from critical point of view, otherwise he has been brilliant right throughout the year,” Jaffer was quoted as saying by CricTracker.

“I feel he is the X-factor of our Indian batting. No matter whoever we have got at 1, 2, 3 or 5,6, when Suryakumar Yadav performs then only the score reaches 180 or 200. So when he fails, we feel that our batting has failed. This is how much importance Suryakumar Yadav brings to the Indian battting,” Jaffer added.
