India will face off against Australia in the first Test of the three-match series on February 9, Thursday and the Baggy Greens are the early favourites to clinch the first Test. That being said, several claims are being made regarding the Nagpur pitch and Cricket Australia’s social media team were the first to initiate the talks by revealing that the Aussies are training with several domestic cricketers to tackle the spin.

That being said, former Indian cricketer, Ravi Shastri opened up on the same and said that all these talks must rather be laughed off and not taken seriously. Shastri claimed that if the home team gets the advantage so be it and that would be the real beauty of the home and away format, in the longest format of the game in specific.

“That is bulls**t! It always happens, you get 15mm grass, 18mm grass or 12mm grass in different places around the ground … at the end of this first Test, I’m sure there’ll be someone who scores a hundred. If someone can get a hundred or 80-plus on that pitch, they’ve played well and he will go and say, ‘What’s wrong with the pitch? You stay there, you apply yourself, your shot selection is good, you get runs,” Shastri was quoted as saying to SEN’s Sportsday.

If the ball is going to turn from there, so be it: Ravi Shastri

Further, Shastri elaborated that the Indian team have no history of complaining about pitches when they played against the Baggy Greens in their own backyard. It remains to be seen if the Indian team would manage to come up with a fiery playing XI and tackle the Aussie wrath in the initial Test at Nagpur.

“If the ball is going to turn from there, so be it. So what? It’s home conditions, do what suits you, both teams have to play on the surface, there’s a match referee who is the boss, it’s as simple as that. We never complained about pitches, in my career we never complained about a simple pitch. No excuses, just get on with it, at the end of three days no one’s going to get killed on that surface. The quality of the camera lenses is so good, they can make green grass look brown, that’s what you expect in India, come on,” Shastri was quoted as saying.
