India’s cricket selectors have announced the squad for the upcoming West Indies tour. Indian team is set to face West Indies in two-match Test series followed by three-match ODI series. The team announcement has created a buzz among fans and experts, particularly due to the exclusion of senior batter Cheteshwar Pujara from the Test squad.

Pujara’s exclusion comes as a surprise to many given his reputation as a dependable batsman in the longest format of the game. However, his poor performance in the recent World Test Championship (WTC) finals against Australia seems to have played a significant role in the decision. Pujara struggled to make an impact during the crucial match, and it appears that the selectors are looking to inject fresh blood into the lineup.

In addition to Pujara, fast bowler Umesh Yadav has also been dropped from the Test squad. He has been replaced by young pacer Navdeep Saini as selectors have trusted his raw pace. Another notable inclusion in both the Test and ODI squads is Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad’s consistent performances in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League have earned him a spot in the national team across formats.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson earn a national call-up

Youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson have also been rewarded for their impressive performances. Jaiswal’s brilliant showing in domestic cricket and IPL has earned him a call-up to the Test squad. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has been called up to the ODI squad after a long time. Samson’s consistent performances in domestic cricket have finally earned him a chance to represent the national team in the 50-over format.

The tour of the West Indies is scheduled to commence on July 12, and Indian cricket fans are eagerly anticipating the performances of the selected players. With a blend of experienced stalwarts and promising youngsters, the Indian team will be keen to make a strong statement against the West Indies across both the Test and ODI series.
