Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s fans are taking the internet by storm with “Thala for a Reason,” a lighthearted trend where they creatively link his jersey number 7 to everything from pop culture to personal experiences. It’s a delightful testament to his enduring popularity and impact. Dhoni’s number 7 has become a canvas for joyous fandom, with fans painting it onto everything from rainbows to wedding vows, from name counts to movie titles. The playful ‘Thala for a Reason’ trend celebrates his legacy through a kaleidoscope of connections.”

However, the man himself confessed it was just his birthday, July 7th. So, while fans can keep their creative connections flowing, let’s remember it’s a personal touch for Thala, not a cosmic code.

“A lot of people initially thought that 7 is a lucky number for me and all of that. But I chose the number for a very simple reason. I was born on the 7th of July. So it’s the 7th day of the 7th month, that was the reason,” the World Cup-winning captain had said.

Dhoni also said that while he took the number 7 because of his birthday, he gave people different reasons. “Rather than getting to all the different things as to what number is a good number and all, I thought I would use my date of birth as the number. Then whenever people kept asking me, I kept adding to the answer. 81 was the year, 8-1 is again 7, and 7 is a very neutral number. People kept telling me, I started absorbing it and I started telling it to others in the same way,” he further said.

Number ‘7’ is no longer available

It has emerged that the Indian Cricket Board has permanently retired jersey number 7, a lasting tribute to the legendary career of MS Dhoni. This honour recognizes his unparalleled contributions to Indian cricket. This is the second time that such a thing has happened with the board previously retiring jersey number 10 as a mark of respect to Sachin Tendulkar, arguably the greatest cricketer.

Dhoni will soon be seen in the yellow colours of the Chennai Super Kings as he is all set to lead the franchise in IPL 2024. There is a huge possibility that this will be the last time that the great man takes the field and so, the stadiums, like in 2023, are expected to be a sea of yellow.
