Kolkata Knight Riders had a good game at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium against CSK on Sunday. They beat CSK at the Chepauk after 10 years. KKR were too good as CSK lost to them by 6 wickets.

Rinku Singh pocketed the player of the match award after scoring a fine 54 off 43 balls with four fours and three sixes. Nitish Rana, the KKR skipper also made a well-crafted unbeaten 57 off 44 balls with six fours and one six. Meanwhile, he was fined for maintaining slow over rate during the game.

Rana was slapped with the fine of 24 Lakhs INR. This was KKR’s second offence in the IPL 2023 season relating to slow over rate. Along with Rana, each member of the playing XI was fined 6 Lakhs INR or 25% of the match fee whichever is lesser. There was also an incident before the final over of CSK’s innings where Rana was having a heated argument with the umpires due to the slow over rate issue.

Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy picked up two wickets each to strange the Chennai Super Kings batting

Since KKR could not complete the overs in their stipulated time, the team had to keep four fielders outside the circle instead of five. In a video that did the rounds on social media, Rana can be seen fuming at the umpires over the slow over rate issue. CSK had won the toss and opted to bat first. They were chocked by KKR’s spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. Narine picked up 2-15 in his four overs spell.

Chakravarthy picked up 2-36 in his four over quota. The CSK batters could not get the measure of the Chepauk pitch. The only notable contribution came from Shivam Dube, who made 48 off 34 balls with one four and three sixes.

In the second innings, Rinku and Rana played some outstanding shots throughout their innings and took KKR to a wonderful victory. With KKR’s win over CSK, the playoff race has gotten even more intense.

Nine teams from the IPL are still in the fray. Delhi Capitals, who are still stuck at eight points, bowed out of the competition. This happened after DC lost to PBKS by 31 runs at home.
