In the three-match series against South Africa, he amassed 156 runs, including a half-century and a dazzling century – his fourth in the shortest format. This dominant performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Series title, showcasing his mastery and love for the fast-paced game. Suryakumar’s leadership shone as India had thrashed the Proteas in the finale, evening the series after defeat in the second match.
Suryakumar Yadav’s South-African tour has concluded, and he will be returning home. Following a below-par performance in the World Cup, the dynamic batter was omitted from the ODI squad. The team’s focus has now shifted towards grooming young talent like Rajat Patidar and Rinku Singh, marking a new chapter in the team’s composition. While Suryakumar’s dedication remains unwavering, his path to the one-day side now requires renewed focus and stronger performers in the future.
He will next be seen in the T20 series between India and Afghanistan which commences on January 11. He could once again be at the helm of affairs if Hardik Pandya is deemed unfit for the series. With the T20 World Cup approaching, India will want Surya to remain in top form as his performance will have a huge say on how the team shall play. As of now, he is the only certainty in India’s middle order as there is no clarity regarding Virat Kohli’s and Hardik Pandya’s availability.
