ODI World Cup 2023

Steve Smith acknowledges that defeating dominant India in World Cup Final is a daunting task

The final of the ODI World Cup 2023 will feature India and Australia on November 19 in Ahmedabad.

In a nail-biting semi-final clash at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Australia emerged victorious over South Africa by three wickets to book their place in the final of the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams showcasing their fighting spirit until the very end.

South Africa, after winning the toss, elected to bat first and were off to a catastrophic start, losing four wickets for just 24 runs. However, David Miller produced a valiant knock of 101 off 116 balls to help the Proteas post a respectable total of 212 runs on the board. Miller’s century was studded with 8 fours and five sixes, and he was ably supported by Heinrich Klaassen, who scored 47 runs. Mitchell Starc was the pick of the Australian bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 34 runs. Josh Hazlewood was also brilliant, claiming figures of 2-12 in eight overs.

In reply, Australia’s chase was far from smooth sailing. They got off to a superb start courtesy of David Warner and Travis Head but the Proteas pulled things back in remarkable fashion, reducing the Aussies to 137-5. However, Australia showed immense grit and composure to come out on the right side of the result.

Australia’s memorable victory has secured their spot in the highly anticipated Cricket World Cup Final against India, scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. Australia will face an uphill battle against a formidable Indian team that has remained undefeated throughout the tournament.

Steve Smith admits Australia face an uphill battle

In the aftermath of a thrilling semi-final match, Shane Watson, a member of the broadcast team, posed a critical question to Steve Smith, the Australian captain, seeking insights into their strategy to overcome India in the upcoming final. Smith responded with a thought-provoking two-word reply: “Good question.” This brief remark was followed by a thoughtful pause, allowing Smith to gather his thoughts before elaborating on the challenge that lay ahead. Acknowledging India’s formidable strength, Smith conceded that Australia would try to give a good performance in the summit clash.

“I really don’t know. They are the best team and have won 10 matches. India have a strong bowling attack. We will try to give good performance against them,” he said.
