Left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat has been released from the Indian squad for the ongoing India vs Australia Test series to participate in the Ranji Trophy final starting from 16th February. The Saurashtra seamer will join his team in the summit clash against Bengal to be played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee in consultation with the Indian team management has decided to release Jaydev Unadkat from India’s squad for the 2nd Test of the Mastercard Australia tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” Indian Cricket Board said in a statement.

The Board also stated that the 31-year-old seamer will head to play the final for Saurashtra. “Jaydev will now join the Saurashtra squad, which qualified for the Mastercard Ranji Trophy final to be played against Bengal from 16th February at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata,” Indian Cricket Board added. Unadkat failed to find a place in the playing XI in the first Test as India opted for Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami as their two fast bowlers for the match.

Saurashtra secured a place in the Ranji Trophy final for the fifth time in the history of the tournament as they defeated Karnataka by four wickets at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.

The 2019-20 edition champions scored the required 115 runs for victory on the fifth and final day of the semifinal match to set up a title showdown with Bengal. It will be a repeat of the 2019-20 final, where Saurashtra had defeated Bengal to lift their second Ranji Trophy title.

Jaydev Unadkat made a comeback to Indian team in December 2022

Meanwhile, Jaydev Unadkat recently made a comeback to the Indian team after a gap of 12 years. He played his second Test against Bangladesh in Mirpur and also picked up his first Test wicket. The left-arm seamer finished with the bowling figures of 3/67 during the match which India ended up winning by three wickets.

Earlier he made his international debut during a Test against South Africa in Centurion way back in 2010. The Saurashtra seamer had a forgettable debut as he gave away 101 runs at an economy of 3.88 and failed to pick up a single wicket.
