‘Ashwin anna ne Australia ke saath khilwaad kar diya’ – Fans stunned as Ashwin reveals he changed his action for the series

India beat Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the first Test at Nagpur on Saturday. India dismissed Australia for 177 in the first innings on the back of Ravindra Jadeja’s 5-47 in his 22-over spell and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 3-42 in the first innings. When he dismissed Alex Carey, he got his 450th Test wicket.

Ashwin, after the match, revealed that he had changed his action for this series. It must be noted that Australia prepared extensively for the spin threat of Ashwin. They hired the services of Baroda-based Mahesh Pithiya who modelled his actions along the lines of Ashwin. Pithiya proved to be a handful as he dismissed the Australian batters quite a few times.

Australia had a four-day preparatory camp at the Alur Grounds in Bengaluru where they practiced on worn-out pitches that give a lot of assistance to spin. Ashwin performed his magic with the ball and beat the Australians at their own game by making changes to his action for this series.

India after dismissing Australia for 177, scored 400 in the second innings on the back of Rohit Sharma’s marvelous innings of 120 off 212 balls with 15 fours and two sixes.  In the same innings, when India were in a spot of bother at 229-6, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel brought India back into the game. Jadeja made 70 off 185 balls with nine fours and Axar made 84 off 174 balls 10 fours and one six.

Mohammed Shami also chipped in with 37 off 47 balls with two fours and three sixes. As a result, India notched 400 runs in their first innings and took a 233-run lead going into second innings.

In Australia’s second innings, the spinners weaved their magic again as Australia were bundled out for 91. Ashwin picked up 5-37 in his 12-over spell. He raced to a five-wicket haul in just his 10th over and picked up 97 wickets against Australia in Tests, which is the second highest after Anil Kumble.
