India started the four-match Test series against Australia in dominating fashion as they wrapped up the first Test in under three days. India won by an innings and 123 runs. This helped India make a wonderful start to the four-Test match series against the Kangaroos at Nagpur. India stand a better chance of qualifying for the Test Championship, courtesy of this win.
During the innings break on Day 3, the Indian players were in a very relaxed mood as they had got a 223-run lead, when a few of the players had come out and when they were waiting for the rest of the team. Virat Kohli attempted a hook step of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’ and Jadeja too shook a leg with him.
Australia were all-out for 91 in the second innings against India at Nagpur
India got to a big total of 400 in the first innings, courtesy of Rohit Sharma, who made 120 off 212 balls with 15 fours and two sixes. There were also valuable contributions from Ravindra Jadeja, who made 70 off 185 balls with nine fours. Axar Patel played a wonderful innings of 84 off 174 balls with 10 fours and one six.
Mohammed Shami made a quick cameo of 37 off 47 balls with two fours and three sixes. The biggest positive for Australia was off-spinner Todd Murphy, who picked up 7 for 124 on debut after bowling a long 47 over spell. In the second innings, Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 5-37 in his 12 overs. Jadeja picked up 2-34 in his 12 overs and Mohammed Shami picked up 2-13 in his short spell of 4.3 overs.
In the first innings, Australia were dismissed for just 177 on the back of a dream comeback from Jadeja, who picked up 5-47 in the first innings and Ashwin picked up 3-42 in the first innings. The breakthroughs in the initial phase were provided by Shami and Mohamed Siraj who picked a wicket each. India showed great ability and application in all three departments at Nagpur.
