Sri Lanka will take on Bangladesh in Match 5 of the Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 1, Thursday. Both teams are coming into this match witnessing a defeat at the hands of Afghanistan and this will be a virtual eliminator with the losing team going home.
Sri Lanka were completely demolished by Nabi & Co. and would hope that that was one of the rare days where everything fell apart. Skipper Dasun Shanaka would hope the team put their best foot forward in the must-win clash.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, despite their poor showing with the bat, would take heart from the efforts of Mosaddek Hossain and the spinners for a good fightback. Their batters will need to step up in this intense clash.
The team management shall look to back the same playing XI for this encounter. The only talk can be around including experienced batter Dinesh Chandimal for the important clash.
Predicted Playing XI:
Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Dilshan Madushanka, Matheesha Pathirana
Players to watch out for:
Charith Asalanka
Charith Asalanka has been a vital cog in the Sri Lankan middle order. He will be key in handling the opposition’s spinners Shakib Al Hasan and Mahedi Hasan in the middle phases of the innings.
Dasun Shanaka
Dasun Shanaka has been an inspirational leader for his side. Shanaka’s stocks have risen in the recent past as far as death-over-hitting goes. The skipper will hope to take in the team through to the next round with a match-winning knock.
Sri Lanka Squad:
Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Dilshan Madushanka, Matheesha Pathirana,Dhananjaya de Silva, Jeffrey Vandersay, Asitha Fernando, Dinesh Chandimal, Ashen Bandara, Praveen Jayawickrama, Nuwanidu Fernando, Pramod Madushan, Nuwan Thushara
Bangladesh might ponder about making changes in the opening pair. Apart from that, they might not look to tinker with any slots.
Predicted Playing XI:
Mohammad Naim, Anamul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Afif Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mosaddek Hossain, Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman
Players to watch out for:
Skipper Shakib Al Hasan is arguably Bangladesh’s best batter and best bowler in the lineup. With a misfiring opening pair, Shakib’s role has become even more crucial with the bat. All eyes will be on the 35-year-old when he takes the field for the must-win clash.
2. Mustafizur Rahman
The veteran Mustafizur Rahman has not been in great form with the bowl. In the last match against Afghanistan, he succumbed under pressure. The veteran bowler is the leader of the pace department and the team would hope he rises to the occasion and set the tone with the ball.
Bangladesh Squad:
Shakib Al Hasan (c), Anamul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed, Sabbir Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Ebadot Hossain, Parvez Hossain Emon, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Taskin Ahmed
Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh
Date – 1st September 2022
Time – 7:30 PM IST
Venue – Dubai International Stadium, Dubai.
Broadcast and Live Streaming – Star Sports Network
The pitch at Dubai is pretty even with a good amount of assistance for batters and bowlers. Batting has been not easy and pacers had come into play more often than not in the previous two encounters played here. Dew might come into the play and the teams winning the toss might be inclined to chase.
