Shubman Gill has made headlines again as he brought up his second hundred in ODIs against Sri Lanka at Thiruvananthapuram. He brought up his century in 89 balls with 11 fours and two sixes. He was dismissed for 116 off 97 balls. He started beautifully by taking Lahiru Kumara on for a boundary that went for four leg byes in the second ball that he faced. Then he hit another four which was a cut to backward point off Kumara shortly after with which he got his first runs off the bat.

In the third over that Kumara bowled he was very wayward and lost his length and line. India tore into him. Rohit smashed a six first ball and then Gill hit Kumara for four boundaries in four deliveries to get India 23 runs off that over. Gill has been very pleasing to the eye in ODI cricket. The team management backed him and gave him a consistent run.

He scored 70 off 60 balls in the first ODI at Guwahati against Sri Lanka

Gill also hit two sixes in his innings one was six off Hasaranga. It was a flighted ball and Gill got low on the slog-sweep connecting bat to ball and sends it a long way into the deep mid-wicket fence. He hit another six off Nvwanidu Fernando which was hit over wide long off. It was a tossed-up ball and Gill used his bottom hand to good effect to get full result.

When the right-handed batter is in full flow, it is a joy to watch. This was his second in ODI cricket. He scored his first hundred in ODIs at Harare. The century came against the Chevrons in the third ODI in the three-match ODI series. The Punjab-born batter made a name for himself in the 2018 U-19 World Cup. He batted in the middle order. He has scored 894 runs so far in ODIs.

India won 2018 Under 19 World Cup in Australia. They defeated Australia in the final. The Team had the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Ishan Porel. He was picked by the Kolkata franchise in the auction in 2018. He was brought by the Gujarat franchise in 2022 where he had a wonderful season with the bat. He scored 483 runs at an average of 34.50 and a strike rate of 132.32 with four half-centuries.
