The target was going to be an easy one for Pakistan as Afghanistan had a very small target to defend. Babar Azam’s horror run with the bat in Asia Cup 2022 continued as he was out for a first ball duck by Farooqi and Fakhar Zaman was run out by Najibullah. Iftikhar Ahmed earned a promotion to number 3 today who made 28 and was dismissed by Fareed when he looked to up the ante. Rizwan looked to threaten but he was sent back by Rashid Khan who got him out lbw. He later came on and picked up Shadab Khan by enticing him to go for the big shot.
Farooqi bowled a beautiful slower ball to dismiss the dangerous Nawaz, Khusdil Shah got out by chopping one back of Farooqi. Fareed came back and picked up Harris Rauf. Fareed then got the dangerman, Asif Ali, with a sharp bouncer. But, Naseem Shah turned it back to Pakistan by hitting 2 sixes off 2 full tosses bowled by Farooqi, and the win was followed by wild celebrations by the Pakistan players.
The fourth match of the Super four kicked off between Afghanistan and Pakistan, this encounter was played at Sharjah. The coin went Pakistan’s way and they elected to bowl first.
In the 1st innings, Hazaratullah Zazai and Rahamanullah Gurbaz provided a fast start for Afghanistan with both of them finding the boundary at will. Gurbaz smashed two sixes in his quick 17 runs from 11 balls before being dismissed by Harris Rauf. Zazai made a quickfire 21 off 17 balls before being beaten for the pace of a delivery bowled by Mohammad Hasnain. Ibrahim Zadran who generally plays the anchor role for Afghanistan made patient innings of 35 from 37 balls which had 2 fours and 1 six, when Karim Janat, Najibullah, and Mohammad Nabi got out to Nawaz, Shadab, and Naseem Shah respectively. Mohammad Nabi’s dismissal was particularly a very tame one while trying to dab the ball to the third man and was bowled.
Towards the end, Omarzai and Rashid Khan battled it out hard and scored 10 and 18 respectively which had three boundaries and 1 maximum in total between the two. This helped Afghanistan to get to a fighting total of 129-6. The Pakistan bowlers were sensational right from the word go as all 5 picked up wickets. Harris Rauf got two scalps while the other bowlers got a wicket each against their name. Pakistan made Afghanistan work hard for their runs and made clever use of their variations.
Twitter was fully abuzz and let us take a look at the reactions here-

Yes, India are out but if there's any team that deserved to be in this Asia Cup final, that is Afghanistan.
An Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka final would have been God's little way of giving it back to them. But…
Congratulations to Sri Lanka and Pakistan

And you thought India Vs Pakistan was ‘war minus the shooting’ ?What a crazy game between Pakistan and Afghanistan! Afghan bowlers esp the 2 left armers were fantastic: Farooqui and Fareed are stars in the making. But number 10 hitting 2 sixes, @iNaseemShah Wow moment! #AsiaCup
