‘SRH is the worst franchise’- Fans react as Sunrisers Hyderabad blocks David Warner on Twitter, Instagram

The Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a major coup in the 2024 IPL auction, acquiring the in-form Australian batsman Travis Head for just 6.8 crore. The left-hander, fresh off a World Cup Final century against India, sparked a heated bidding war between SRH and Chennai Super Kings before Hyderabad ultimately secured his services.

Head’s recent exploits, including his dominant role in Australia’s World Cup triumph, has made him a hot commodity in the auction. His ability to bat in different positions and to bowl off-spin which will be handy in India, is a huge plus point for any team that he is a part of.

SRH blocks IPL winning captain

After Head was bought by SRH, David Warner took to social media to congratulate Head, while sharing the latter’s story. The story was a reshare of a picture uploaded by SRH after signing Head. However, Warner’s post revealed that SRH had blocked him as he was unable to view SRH’s story. It was revealed that SRH had blocked him on micro-blogging site, X as well. Warner, shared a screenshot of the block with a couple of laughing emojis, possibly hinting at his playful concern for Head landing at what he perceived as a “bad franchise.”

This news ignited a firestorm of criticism on social media, with accusations of disrespect aimed at the franchise for ostracizing the player who led them to their lone IPL title in 2016. Warner, known for his aggressive batting style and charismatic presence, captained SRH to IPL victory in 2016, scoring 848 runs that season. He remained a key member of the team for several years, but was controversially sacked as captain in 2021 amidst a dip in form. Subsequently, he was released by the franchise ahead of the 2022 IPL auction.

The news of SRH blocking Warner on social media platforms triggered a wave of anger and disappointment among fans. Many voiced that their displeasure on Twitter and Instagram, accusing the franchise of being ungrateful and failing to acknowledge Warner‘s immense contribution to their success.
