Murali Vijay has lambasted former India and Mumbai cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar for his disrespectful comments about players who are coming from the South of India. Manjrekar was a part of the commentary panel for the ongoing Australia series.

These comments took place on the second day of the Test match in the morning. It all started with the broadcasters talking about the conversion rates of Indian opening batters at home. Sanjay Manjrekar made a comment which was in bad taste and one that did not please former India opener, Murali Vijay.

Manjrekar is known to cause quite a stir and create some unease with comments whenever he makes them. He made a very blunt comment saying that he was very surprised to see Murali Vijay’s name on the top of that list. When the comment was passed, Murali Vijay was infuriated and took to Twitter and put out some tweets where he criticized the former Mumbai batter.

Ravindra Jadeja picked up 5-42 in the first innings to dismiss Australia for 177 in the first innings

He tagged Manjrekar on the comment and said that some Mumbai players do not appreciate players who are from the Southern part of India. Vijay had recently called it quits from all forms of cricket. Test cricket was the batter’s trademark format where he had played 61 Tests and scored 12 hundreds and 15 fifties and made 3982 runs in the five-day format at an average of 38.28.

Here is the tweet

India started off the first Test against Australia on a wonderful note after dismissing the Australians for 177. Ravindra Jadeja picked up 5-47 in his 22-over spell and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 3-42 in his spell of 15.5 overs. The spinners did the bulk of the damage for India after the opening breakthroughs were provided by the pacers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne were the best batters for the Australians in the first innings as they scored 49 off 123 balls with eight fours and 37 off 107 balls with seven fours. India ended the first day on 77-1 with Rohit Sharma batting on an unbeaten 56 off 69 balls.
