Steve Smith will be involved in the Indian T20 League, however, this time it will be in a different capacity. He will be working as a commentator in the tournament. Smith has represented Rajasthan, Pune and Delhi in the Indian T20 League. The Australian batter has scored 2485 runs in his Indian T20 League career. He has scored one hundred and 11 fifties in the competition.
Smith’s stint will most likely end in May as he will play for Sussex in England before the Ashes. This will also be the first time the fab four i.e., Kane Williamson, Smith, Joe Root and Virat Kohli will be involved in the league in some capacity. Williamson will play for Gujarat this year, Root has got a contract with Rajasthan, and Kohli will be playing for Bangalore. The Indian T20 League will be played in the home and away format.
Steve Smith led Australia to a 2-1 ODI series win against India in India
The games will be played in 12 venues this year. Smith has shown his mettle as stand-in captain in Pat Cummins’ absence in the Indian series. Australia won the Indore Test against India by nine wickets. Smith then led the Kangaroos in the ODIs as well. He helped Australia win the series after a loss against India in Mumbai.
Smith earned a lot of appreciation for his tactics in Chennai. The cricketing world liked the way he thought on his feet. The 33-year-old tactically plotted Kohli’s and Hardik Pandya’s downfall with the spinners in operation. He asked David Warner to come a little inside at long off. This tactic made Pandya go for the big shot and get out. He brought Ashton Agar at the right time to dismiss Kohli.
That dismissal turned the match in Australia’s favour. The Kangaroos defeated the Men in Blue by 21 runs and took the series 2-1.
