‘Short Ball inspector spotted’ -Fans react as Shreyas Iyer marks his attendance at SAFF Championship in India vs Lebanon clash

India have had a great run in the SAFF Championship as the Blue Tigers have remained unbeaten in the road to the final.

The Indian Football team played a thrilling game of football against Lebanon at Sree Kanteerveera Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. India beat Lebanon 4-2 in penalties. At the end of extra time, the scores were 0-0. Lebanon went all out against India and did not let them have any easy chances during the 120 minutes of game time. When it came to the penalties, Sunil Chhetri drew first blood as he got the ball over the Lebanon goalkeeper. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu then made sure Hasan Maatouk could not score.

The Blue Tigers made sure that they rein the good start in, as Mahesh and Anwar Ali capitalised when it came to their respective penalty kicks. On the other side, Walid Shour and Mohammad Sadek scored successful penalties. Then Udanta Singh fired the fourth penalty kick into the goal. When it came to Lebanon, Khali Bader could not convert which ensured India were in the finals of the SAFF Championship. The Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer was also present in the stadium to support the Blue Tigers.

We dominated the match after the first 15 minutes – India assistant coach Mahesh Gawli

He was seated with the Indian Football coach Igor Stimac who did not sit in the Indian dressing room as he was facing a two-match ban for his outburst in the game against Kuwait where he received a red card. India will face Kuwait in the summit clash which won 1-0 against Bangladesh. India will be playing in the finals of the SAFF Championship for the 13th time. This will also be their ninth time consecutively. The Blue Tigers have been 9 times victors out of 13 editions in the SAFF Championship.

India and Lebanon squared off against each other recently in the Inter-Continental Cup which took place in Odisha. India beat Lebanon 2-0 in that game. India have had a great run in the SAFF Championship as the Blue Tigers have remained unbeaten in the road to the final.

“First 15 minutes we were sloppy. After that we dominated the match. You see the intensity… the intensity till 120 minutes was the same. Credit goes to the boys. We did very well, and we dominated. If had scored the [chances] which we got, the score would have been 3-0, 4-0.” India’s assistant coach Mahesh Gawli said.
