MS Dhoni led CSK to their fifth IPL title whilst nursing a knee injury throughout the season

Days after leading his IPL team to a decisive title triumph over Gujarat Titans in the 2023 T20 League final, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni underwent successful knee surgery in the city of Mumbai. Early in the competition, Dhoni expressed worries about his left knee, but he persevered to win his sixth IPL championship.

“Yes, Dhoni has had a successful knee surgery at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday. He is doing fine and will be released in a day or two. He would be resting for a few days before his extensive rehabilitation starts. It is now expected that he would have enough time to get fit to play in the next IPL,” a source close to CSK management said.

Throughout the competition, Dhoni was also seen heavily securing his left knee before heading out to bat. A video of this was published online and received tens of thousands of views and well wishes as the 41-year-old demonstrated his resolve to overcome pain and succeed. However, a recent photo of him enjoying breakfast after the successful surgery has surfaced online and it comes as a stress relief for all of his fans.

MS Dhoni hinted at coming back for IPL 2024

During the post-match presentation ceremony of the IPL 2023 season finale, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper said, “Circumstantially, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love I have received all over. The easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing will be working hard for another 9 months and come back and play at least one more season. It would be a gift from me, won’t be easy on the body”.

Speaking of the adoration and support he had received during the season, he said “You do get emotional simply because it’s the least part of my career. It started over here and the first game when I walked down everyone was chanting my name. “My eyes were full of water and I just stood there in the dugout for a while and decided that I want to enjoy this”.
