After their heartbreaking loss to Mumbai Indians on the opening night of WPL 2024, Delhi Capitals were back in form. The runners-up from the 2024 edition hardly broke any sweat as they beat UP Warriorz in a one-sided contest.

It was Meg Lanning who won the toss and chose to bowl first. The two sides went in with the same teams from their last game. UP Warriorz too were coming off a loss in the first game of the season.

Alyssa Healy and her side had lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore Women by 2 runs. At one stage the UP side looked like going home to an easy win. But Sobhana Asha had other ideas and the fifer derailed UP’s charge towards the target.

Marizzane Kapp and Radha Yadav outwit UP with the ball-

South African veteran pacer Marizzane Kapp was the early difference maker for Delhi Capitals. The right-arm pacer began by dismissing Veda Krishnamurthy for a duck. Tahlia McGrath was the next to fall when she was bowled by Kapp for just 1 run. The best was yet to come as Alyssa Healy was caught by Shafali Varma off Kapp for 13. This put UP in a huge spot of bother at 16 for 3 in the 5th over.

20-year-old Shweta Sehrawat could only watch in horror as some of her most established teammates were getting dismissed. The right-handed batter kept scoring runs to keep UP in the game. The 45 runs scored by Sehrawat came off 42 balls with the help of 5 fours and a six.

23-year-old Radha Yadav caught fame with her performances during the 2023 WPL season. The left-arm spinner continued to build on her reputation on Monday with figures of 4/20. Her first wicket of the day was Grace Harris for 17 and followed it up with the scalp of Kiran Navgire. In her second spell, Yadav got the big wicket of Shweta Sehrawat and ended with the wicket of Sophie Ecclestone.

Chasing a mere 120 to win the opening pair of Meg Lanning and Shafali Varma decimated the UP bowling attack. Young Shafali Varma scored a blistering half-century with some delightful shots. Meg Lanning took her time to get going but once she got in there was no stopping the former batting legend. After scoring her 50 Meg Lanning was out to give UP bowlers some consolation.

Here’s how the fans reacted –
