‘Aise hee nazar lag jaati hai’ – Fans react as Shafali Varma predicts India to win Asia Cup 2023

The Asia Cup 2023 will be held in the 50-over format and is slated to begin on August 30.

Shafali Verma, the World Cup-winning captain for the Women’s U-19 Cricket World Cup, was felicitated during Monday’s CEAT Cricket Awards. Speaking on the occasion, Verma said, “CEAT has provided a significant platform for women’s cricket to shine. It’s truly heartwarming to see our efforts being celebrated on such a grand stage. And I firmly believe that such initiatives will only provide motivation to young girls to take up the sport and empower themselves as individuals.”

In the same event, Verma also predicted that India will end up winning the Asia Cup ODI 2023. Notably, Indian Cricket Board’s selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar announced the squad for the continental competition on Monday at 1:30 PM. The tournament is slated to begin on August 30 as Pakistan and Nepal square off in the opener in Multan. However, the Men in Blue kicks off their campaign at Kandy, Sri Lanka, on September 2 against arch-rivals Pakistan.

The CEAT Cricket Awards are presented based on a CEAT Cricket Rating. The ratings are considered high competence with India legend Sunil Gavaskar acting as the chief adjudicator. Speaking on the occasion, Gavaskar said, “The CEAT Cricket Rating has been a torchbearer to recognize and promote impeccable talent in this great sport. The award winners this year are global role models of sport and it should hopefully inspire future generations of great talent to take up the mantle ahead.”

Talking more on the Asia Cup squad, Tilak Varma, the young Mumbai Indians batter has seen a surprise entry. At the same time, the middle-order duo of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are back to fans’ relief. Prasidh Krishna, who returned in the series against Ireland also sees a way through. However, Kerala batter Sanju Samson only finds his place as a travelling reserve.
