The Women’s Premier League is still in its early stages and there are still a lot of matches to go. However, the struggles of Gujarat Giants have not seemed to come to an end even now. The Giants were put into bat by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur at the Chinnaswamy. It was the experienced pacer Shabnim Ismail who started creating havoc in the powerplay. The Gujarat Giants’ innings did not go anywhere and they eventually finished on a score of just 126 in 20 overs.
It was not necessarily a nice and easy start for the Mumbai Indians as well as they were also struggling at 49-3 at one stage. It was the Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur who came to her team’s rescue once again. She formed partnerships with Nat Sciver Brunt and Amelia Kerr to finish the game with just 11 balls to spare. Mumbai finally won the game by 5 wickets and won their second game in a row.
Amelia Kerr’s match-winning performance
Even though Harmanpreet Kaur gave a great performance, it was the performance of Amelia Kerr which set the tone. Kerr was the pick of the bowlers in the first innings as she ended with figures of 4/17 in 4 overs. She then came back with the bat scoring a crucial 31 runs to keep the game in control. This was a typical all-round performance by the Kiwi player and she once again proved herself on the big stage once again.
The defending champions have done it once again and there isn’t anything stopping them right now. With 2 wins in a row, they have already started well in the league. They will be playing their next game against the UP Warriorz and will look to give the same dominant performance. They are comfortably one of the favourites to win the tournament and they will be confident going into this game as well.
