Serena Williams and Venus Williams are set to make a reentry together for doubles at the US Open 2022. The terrific duo and 14-time Grand Slam doubles champions have been issued a wild card to participate in the US Open, which is scheduled to start on Monday. The duo have won the US Open two times and will play alongside each other after a gap of 3 years since the 2018 Roland Garros.
They have won 14 major doubles titles together. Also, Serena and Venus Williams have teamed up to clinch three Olympic gold medals in doubles, which they won in 2000, 2008 and 2012. They are the most recent team to win all four major titles in one go. The super sisters have won at 2009 Wimbledon, 2009 US Open, 2010 Australian Open and 2010 French Open.
Serena recently called it quits from professional tennis and she made her announcement in a first-person article published in Vogue. She went on to win a record 23 Grand Slam singles titles and is calling her time out from the game after a long Tennis career which spanned over 27 years.
“I have never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me,” Williams wrote. “I’ve been thinking of this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people. Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.”
The Tennis superstar has been an icon in the game and still continues to inspire many. She has won 39 Grand Slams in Total, she also has two more mixed doubles titles with Max Mirnyi. She was also defending the trophies for all four Grand Slams on two different occasions in 2003 and 2015.
