India, after the early blows by Pakistan bowlers, recovered well and posted a total of 266/10 in 48.5 overs in Asia Cup 2023. At the start of the play, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Men in Blue’s chances of getting a good score were shattered after Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill departed within the 15 overs of the game.
However, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya had different plans altogether as they stood in the crease and added 138 runs together to take India 66-4 to 205-5, they together batted brilliantly and attacked the spinners and kept rotating strike against the pacers. Ishan was dismissed on the score of 82 runs by Haris Rauf after Ravindra Jadeja came in next and tried to score some quick runs along with Pandya, the latter one being the aggressor.
Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya’s innings kept India’s hope alive-
Jadeja was dismissed by Shaheen Shah Afridi on the 13-run mark. After the wicket of Pandya on 87(90), Jasprit Bumrah scored 16 runs, including three boundaries, which later pushed the Indian innings to a score of 266. Speaking of Babar Azam-led side bowling, Afridi bowled a brilliant spell today, from taking early wickets to bowling death overs, at the start he dismissed Rohit and Kohli and when he came in the later part of the innings, he cleaned up Hardik and Jadeja. The left-arm pacer ended with 4/35 in 10 overs, along with Naseem Shah, who was economical and ended up with three wickets.
It is pertinent to mention that this is the third game of the tournament, where Babar Azam-led side is coming from the win in the first game against Nepal, while Men in Blue is playing their first game in the tournament. But as the weather forecast predicted rain is likely to spoil the party in the Kandy for the most anticipated clash of the tournament, and in the first innings the play was stopped on two occasions, it will be interesting how Indian pacers and spinner utilize the situation and defend this total against their arch-rivals.
