Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is set to meet with the Indian Cricket Board pretty soon. The 36-year-old will likely take a huge call on his white ball future after losing in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament finals.

As per reports doing the rounds the selectors and Rohit Sharma are on the same boat as far as his non-inclusion in T20 is concerned. The Indian Board now wants to work with Rohit Sharma and create and groom the next skipper.

The Indian cricket team is set to face off against Australia in the five–match T20I series starting on Thursday. Suryakumar Yadav has already been named the skipper of the side with youngsters being named primarily in the side.

Rohit Sharma and Indian Cricket Board to create new roadmap –

It is learned that the Indian Cricket Board is set to sit and discuss the white ball future of Rohit Sharma. The 36-year-old as per the reports is going to concentrate more on test cricket shortly. While Rohit Sharma is okay with not playing T20 cricket, he may continue to lead the side in the next few years in the ODI format.

One source while speaking to The Times of India said “Before the ODI World Cup, Rohit had communicated that he is fine not being considered for T20’s. The selectors have been investing heavily in youth in T20I’s for the last year. With the T20 World Cup happening in June next year, they are reluctant to deviate from strategies”

Ajinkya Rahane despite his stellar showing in the WTC final may not find a place in the Indian test squad. The Indian veteran is likely to be dropped for the two-match test series against South Africa in a few weeks. The reason for that is the return to form of Shreyas Iyer and the 28-year-old will most likely be part of the test squad.

The Indian Cricket Board has clarified that there is no urgency in planning for the ODI format. Team India is set to play just 6 ODI games in 2024 as they will be concentrating on the T20 and Test formats of the game. The Indian board also said that constant injuries to Hardik Pandya means they may have to start looking for other captaincy options.
