Rohit Sharma makes appreciative gesture to KL Rahul after he plays eye catching six off Nathan Lyon

India and Australia battled it out in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Openers Kl Rahul and Rohit Sharma blunted the new ball for eight overs and ended Day 1 at 21-0. On Day 2, the duo began cautiously and took the score to 46 before Nathan Lyon turned the match on its head for Australia.

KL Rahul had another outing to forget as he was out for a laborious 17 off 41 balls. Rahul was out to Lyon. It seemed as if he got into a shell and was not able to score big. The only highlight of his innings was when he came down the track and smashed Lyon through the line with a whip-like shot. The ball cleared long on with ease and went for a six.

The stroke made Rohit very happy as he gave an appreciative nod to his partner. Throughout Rahul’s innings, Rohit was passing instructions several times asking him to play his natural game and bat freely without having too many inhibitions and not feel pressure. The duo also punched gloves after Rahul had played the stroke.

India are in a precarious position at Lunch as they are 88-4, having lost the wickets of Rohit, Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer. India, earlier, dismissed Australia for 263 on the back of Mohammed Shami’s spell where he picked up 4-60 in 14.4 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up 3-57 and 3-68 in their 21-over spells.

The best batters for Australia was Usman Khawaja, who scored 81 off 125 balls with 12 fours and one six. He used the sweep to good effect against spin and looked composed at the crease. Peter Handscomb made an authoritative 72 off 142 balls with nine fours and looked at ease against spin. Australia skipper Pat Cummins made a quickfire 33 off 59 balls with three fours and two sixes.
