ODI World Cup 2023

WATCH- PM Modi’s heartwarming visit lifts spirits of Indian Cricket Team after devastating loss in World Cup Final

India lost the ODI World Cup 2023 final to Australia by 6 wickets

After an undefeated streak of ten consecutive victories in the ODI World Cup, India’s hopes of a repeat championship were dashed by a heartbreaking six-wicket loss to Australia in the final. India, sent in to bat first by Australian captain Pat Cummins, could only muster a total of 240 in their allotted 50 overs, a target that was always going to be challenging to defend.

Despite a promising start, having reduced the Aussies to 47-3, India’s hopes were dashed by a formidable 193-run partnership between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne. Australia eventually cruised to victory by 6 wickets with 7 overs to spare.

The weight of defeat hung heavy in the air as Mohammed Siraj succumbed to a torrent of tears the moment the final ball was delivered. The magnitude of the loss was evident in KL Rahul’s reluctance to leave the field, his knees sinking into the turf as if unwilling to bear the burden of disappointment.

Skipper Rohit Sharma, unable to contain the raw emotions of defeat, hastily shook hands with his teammates before seeking solace in the sanctuary of the dressing room. Virat Kohli, shielding his face from the glare of onlookers, retreated beneath the shade of his cap, seeking refuge from the sting of defeat. Disappointment and dejection were writ large on the faces of all the players and coaching staff members.

Narendra Modi, the country’s Prime Minister, who was in attendance, paid a visit to the Indian dressing room to console the players and encourage them.

“Smile, the whole country is watching you.” – PM Narendra Modi

In a video that has gone viral, Modi can be seen consoling the team’s captain, Rohit Sharma, and senior player, Virat Kohli, reminding them of their remarkable journey throughout the tournament. With a reassuring smile, he tells them, “Smile, the whole country is watching you.”

Modi’s words of encouragement extended to the team’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, batter, KL Rahul, and star bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. He also commended Mohammed Shami for his exceptional performance throughout the tournament. Before departing, Modi reminded the team to stay positive and high-spirited, promising to meet them soon in Delhi.

The Prime Minister’s genuine concern and support for the team during this difficult time have touched the hearts of millions across India. His actions have not only lifted the spirits of the players but also served as a reminder that true leadership lies in the ability to inspire and uplift others, even in the face of adversity
