Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are in the process of overhauling their roster ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024 season. It started by replacing Justin Langer with Andy Flower as the head coach and recently they announced the addition of MSK Prasad as a strategic consultant. Now, it is learned that mentor Gautam Gambhir is set to part ways with the Lucknow-based franchise.

According to a Hindi daily, Dainik Jagran, the former India opener will be the next to leave the LSG camp, ending his two-year association with the franchise. “After Andy Flower, Gautam Gambhir will now leave the IPL franchise… I can’t say anything further beyond this,” the report quoted a source as saying.

Gambhir and Flower had a successful stint with the team as they guided them to the playoffs in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the IPL. When the franchise announced the former Zimbabwe star’s departure last month, there were reports that Gambhir too is set to leave the club. The Jagran report further said that the southpaw has also been in talks with his previous franchise Kolkata Kight Riders (KKR).

It will be interesting to see if Gambhir returns to the team where he had great success as a player. The 41-year-old made his debut for KKR in 2011 and led the team to glory in 2012 and 2014. He is currently in the USA, where he will play for New Jersey Tritons in the US Masters T10 League alongside 2011 World Cup winner Yusuf Pathan.

The franchise confirmed the development on Thursday (August 17) in an official release. “The former Indian Cricket Board Chairman of the Selection Committee will be instrumental in providing essential guidance across a spectrum of critical domains,” LSG stated.

“Prasad brings with him a wealth of experience and a stellar track record in cricket operations, coupled with a passion that has driven him to remarkable achievements in both national and international arenas. His journey is marked by a range of accomplishments that spans from representing the Indian National Cricket Team to steering the operations of prominent cricket associations; all of which will bring valuable insights and experience to our organization,” the statement added.
