Badrinath played 127 matches in First class career and scored 9127 runs at a batting average of 54.65, including 28 hundred and 41 fifty. These are exceptional numbers for any batter, particularly for a middle-order batter. Sadly, the competition in the Indian team was too hard that the Tamil Nadu batter could not get many chances.
The 42-year-old got fewer opportunities in India and played only 2 Test matches, 7 ODIs, and a lone T20I match for the men in blue. In Tests, Badrinath scored 63 runs in 3 innings with a best score of 56. In ODIs, Badrinath scored 79 runs in 6 innings, at a batting average of 15.80. In T20Is, Badrinath scored 43 runs in 37 balls in the lone match he played.
It was the time when the Indian team still had seniors like Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid performing at their best in Tests. In Limited overs cricket, the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni performed well and provided all-round capabilities. Despite performing consistently for his domestic teams, Badrinath was not preferred by the selectors.
