The Women’s Indian T20 League will take place from March 4. Women’s tournament will take place just before the Men’s Indian T20 League. The Women’s T20 League will be a five-team tournament. The tournament will take place at the DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Teams can include a maximum of five overseas players if one of them is from an associate nation.
The bidding for the five teams from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, UP and Gujarat happened by process of closed bidding. When the bidding was concluded, the franchise rights totalled 4669 crores. The sponsorship rights for the tournament have been sold to the TATA group for an undisclosed sum. The Tata Group also sponsors the Men’s Indian T20 League. Shafali Verma has been an X factor for India ever since she was found in the Women’s T20 challenge. She has played 56 T20Is for India and scored 1333 runs with the highest score of 73 at an average of 24.23 and a strike rate of 132.11. The 19-year-old has scored five fifties in the shortest format for India. She has also scored 531 runs in 21 ODI matches played. Her explosive batting at the top will give the X factor for Delhi.
