India Women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur batted illness and was deemed fit to play for India as she made a valiant half-century. Her innings consisted of 52 off 34 balls with six fours and one six. This courageous innings from the captain helped India get to 167-8 but that was just 5 runs short of Australia’s total of 172-4 in 20 overs.

The way she was dismissed was in the form of a run out. While trying to take a single. Her bat got struck in the ground which meant she was dismissed by a run-out. The fans could not help but point out similarities between MS Dhoni’s run-out in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.

Australia wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy whipped off the bails and Kaur was short of the crease. She was devastated with the way she got out.  Kaur also said that she got out at the wrong time and it costed India the match. India eventually lost the game by 5 runs.

MS Dhoni was run out by Martin Guptill in 2019 when India needed 31 in the last two overs

In MS Dhoni’s case, New Zealand scored 239-8 in their 50 overs and, in reply, India were 221 all out. India were just short by 18 runs. Since 2013, India are yet to win a World event. India were staring down the barrel at 92-6 when Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja brought India back into the game with a stunning partnership.

Jadeja scored 77 off 59 balls with four fours and four sixes. Dhoni made an unlikely innings of 50 off 72 balls with one four and one six. But this was just what the team needed at that time. Dhoni was run out by Martin Guptill in what was the last ODI in his career and also run-out when India needed 31 off the last 12 balls.

When it comes to the India Women, the Kaur led side did not make it to the finals of the 20-20 World Cup in South Africa. But they made to the final against Australia on Australian soil in 2020 when the final was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where there was a record attendance of 86,174. India had also lost to Australia in the Commonwealth Games final in Birmingham. Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter –
