According to recent rumours, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is yet to extend the contracts of its Director of Cricket Mike Hesson and coach Sanjay Bangar. The Bangalore-based franchise, which has never won the title, said in a statement that both are still under contract and that the franchise has yet to make a final choice, which will be made public soon.

The Indian Express reports that the team, which has yet to win an IPL trophy, is looking for new instructors, although it is unclear whether present bowling coach Adam Griffith would be retained. Hesson and Bangar are known to get along well with RCB icon Virat Kohli and have been in their jobs for five years. However, the franchise is now looking for someone who can bring in fresh ideas as they pursue their first IPL title. The squad failed to enter the playoffs in the 2023 edition, leaving its massive fan base and supporters disappointed. It is unclear whether RCB would appoint a foreign head coach or an Indian to lead the team.

Their contract with RCB is still intact: RCB statement

RCB said in a statement, “Their contract with RCB is still intact. The team is still under the process of review. We will come back if any announcement on the changes in the team.” The Faf du Plessis-led squad did well in the IPL 2023, winning seven and losing seven games. However, they had a chance to finish in the top four until the last league game of the season, when they were defeated by the Gujarat Titans.

But it was not the end of the story, as they could at least brag about some of their individual accomplishments during the year. RCB’s standout opener Faf du Plessis and former skipper Virat Kohli were among the top run scorers, with 730 and 639 runs scored, respectively, while ace seamer Mohammed Siraj took 19 wickets in 14 matches.

Following reports the former Australian coach Justin Langer being hired as the new Lucknow coach to replace Andy Flower, the Zimbabwean legend is said to be applying for the job elsewhere – and with this opportunity coming up soon, both parties are likely to meet.
