Pakistan Cricket Board lambasts Fox Cricket over publishing unproven story on Babar Azam’s text scandal

Babar Azam last led Pakistan in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand.

Babar Azam has been trending on social media with allegations of him ‘sexting’ a teammate’s partner for some time now. Some of the videos, pictures and screenshots of the same made their way to Twitter. The accusations about Babar emerged when a verified user on Twitter posted a parodical tweet.

One of the media partners of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Fox Cricket, put out a story on the whole alleged affair on their Twitter handle and their website. “Babar Azam is being accused of allegedly sexting teammate’s girlfriend after videos of voice recordings went viral online.” Fox Cricket had written.

When the Tweet came about, the PCB lambasted Fox Cricket via a public response. It said that the Australian Television channel should have not put out the story without doing proper background checks behind it. As our media partner, you might have considered ignoring such unsubstantiated personal allegations which Babar Azam has not deemed worthy of a response,” The PCB said.

Fans pledged their support to Babar amidst the controversy 

Following the hard response from the PCB. The Tweet was deleted by Fox Cricket and also the article when it was put up on their website was taken down. Some allegations and accusations were made by a parody account. He also claimed that he had put up the story in a funny way. He said there was no truth to the story.

He Tweeted to the PCB saying, “If you want to sue Fox News, reach me out in DMs. I am ready to become a witness in this case for my fellow lovely Pakistani people.” The people of Pakistan were over the moon after the article was deleted from Fox Sports. With regards to Babar, he chose to sidestep the controversy, but the Pakistan Captain received a lot of support from fans.

The right-handed batter has been among the runs. On the captaincy front, he has been under pressure after the Men in Green had lost 3-0 to England at home and then drew the Tests against New Zealand. Pakistan also lost to the Kiwis in the ODI series 2-1. There are reports that Babar might be replaced as the skipper of the ODI side.
