The Ashes has been historically known to be a fiery affair between the two cricketing giants. Both England and Australia leave no stone unturned to bring the diminutive trophy to their shores. Often times the zeal to get the win brings players to the edge of cricketing laws and propels them to push the boundaries of what is acceptable in the laws.

Something like this took place in the second Test match of the ongoing Ashes 2023 when Alex Carey stumped Jonny Bairstow in the fourth inning of the match. Bairstow after ducking Cameron Green’s bouncer just moved out of the crease without paying heed to the completion of the ball.

Carey showed a great presence of mind and threw the ball at the stump while Bairstow meandred outrside of the crease without a care in the world. The Australian players appeals and after a quick discussion among them, the umpires gave it out. Soon the English supporters at the Lord’s Cricket Ground started booing the Australian team.

England eventually lost the maytch depiste a great fightback from Ben Stokes. Stuart Broad who has a century parrnenship with Stokes played a brilliant hand himself but could not take his team across the line. He was also miffed with the manner of dismissal of Bairstow and had some strong words after the match ended.

In a blog, the English fast bowler questioned Australian senior players saying that he could not belive why none of them withdrew the appeal. He wrote, “What amazed me and what I could not beleive was that not one senior player among Australia questiooned what they had done. Not one of them thought Bairstow gaining no advantage. He’s not trying to get a run.”

Social media howevr wasnt of the same opinion as Broad and a lot of fans clapped baxck at Broad suggesting that he should first look at his own past behaviours and then question others.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Stuart Broad’s comments:
