Mohammed Kaif makes massive claim amidst comparisons of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Sachin Tendulkar

Shubman Gill has been in rousing form recently. The man from Punjab is coming to the World Test Championship final on the back of an electric Indian Premier League season. Gill had scored 890 runs from 17 matches in the cash-rich league at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80. The 23-year-old struck three hundreds and four fifties in the tournament in 2023 in what was a breakout IPL season for him.
Speaking about Gill, Mohammed Kaif said on Sportskeeda that his batting is a lot like Tendulkar’s than that of Kohli. Kaif believes that Kohli’s batting is not polished and still has some chinks in the armour. To elucidate his point he pointed out to the England tour in 2014 was an absolute disaster for Kohli where James Anderson had his number throughout that series. Kohli had scored just 134 runs in five matches and was out on a duck twice.

“Sachin was also a very organized batter. If I compare Sachin and Virat, the latter still has some weaknesses. He was out of form when he went to England (in 2014). James Anderson troubled him a lot outside the off stump and he had no answers to it. He was a total flop in that series, “Kaif said.
“I feel Gill’s technique is similar to Tendulkar. It is very difficult to get him out at this point in time. There seems to be no weakness in his game. Virat and Sachin both are legends. I have played with both, but Kohli has his weaknesses,” Kaif added. Gill has made 890 runs in Test cricket so far at an average of 34.23 and at a strike rate of 57.64. Gill has made four test half-centuries and two centuries.
Gill was in good Test match form against Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He scored his second Test ton at Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. It is likely that Gill will face a stern test against a very experienced Australian attack even in English conditions.
