The fourth day of the second Test between India and West Indies in Port of Spain moved rather too quickly. West Indies started the day with a first-innings score of 229/5. Indian pace bowling duo of Mohammad Siraj and Mukesh Kumar got the ball to swing both ways and created havoc on West Indies. Siraj swung the ball both ways at a speed of over 140 kmph.

On the second ball of the day, Mukesh got rid of Alick Athanaze. After that, Siraj did the job of cleaning up the tail. The pacer from Hyderabad attacked the stumps and was rewarded duly. In the process, the 29-year-old got his second five-wicket haul in Test cricket. India dismissed West Indies for a score of 255 in the first innings. The home side lost their last 5 wickets for 47 runs.

Quick progression of the 2nd Test

With rain playing the trick and not much time left in the game, India was forced to score some quick runs. The Indian batters did exactly that. Rohit Sharma scored 57(44) in an entertaining knock. The Indian captain played short balls well and hot boundaries with the swing. Yashasvi Jaiswal batted very well too. The two provided a quick start to the Indian innings before departing.

Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan continued the slogging and helped India to score runs at a brisk rate. Gill scored 29(37) and Kishan scored an unbeaten 52 runs in 34 deliveries. India scored 181 runs in 24 overs and declared their second innings. 365 was the target for West Indies, which is not easy to chase in Test cricket.

Chasing the target, West Indies openers were at their defensive best. Till Ravichandran Ashwin was introduced to the attack, the openers managed well to negate the pacers. Ashwin provided two crucial wickets towards the end of the day. The right-arm off-spinner dismissed Kraigg Brathwaite and Kirk McKenzie. West Indies ended the day with a score of 76/2. The home side needs 289 runs to win the Test. India needs 8 wickets to win the Test.
