India and West Indies locked horns again in Trinidad on Day 3. The Men from the Caribbean continued from where they left off at 86-1. West Indies ended the Day at 229-5. The men in Blue put a long and hard toil and a very slow pitch. Debutant Kirk McKenzie was the first to go as he was caught behind by Ishan Kishan off Mukesh Kumar. The left-hander looked impressive in his short innings of 32 off 57 balls with four fours and one six.

Kraigg Brathwaite however continued to grind it out and take it to the Indian bowling attack. The West Indies captain played a long innings of 75 off 235 balls with five fours and one six. Just as it looked like he would continue to fight it out, he was outclassed by the mastery of Ravichandran Ashwin. The man from Tamil Nadu had bowled a lot of overs but did not pick up a wicket. Against the run of play, he scalped Brathwaite. The ball was well tossed up, Brathwaite had missed the line of the delivery.

Alick Athanaze ended  Day 3 with an unbeaten 37 off 111 balls in Trinidad

The ball then turned further to go through the gap between bat and pad to dislodge Braithwaite’s stumps. This meant that the marathon effort from the West Indies skipper was over. Jermaine Blackwood was the next man in. Though the right-hander tried to take the attack to the Indian bowlers, he was sent back to the pavilion by an outstanding catch from Ajinkya Rahane off Ravindra Jadeja for 20 off 92 balls with two fours.

Alick Athanze came in after the fall of Blackwood, The left-handed batter looked assured with his stroke play and also solid in defence. He kept batting well and did not look like getting out. Athanaze ended Day 2 with an unbeaten 37 off 111 balls with three fours. Joshua Da Silva did not have a good stay at the crease as he was cleaned up by Mohammed Siraj with a scorcher for 10 off 26 balls. There were two rain breaks on Day 2 and the full quota of overs were not bowled due to bad light.
