Gautam Gambhir recently hogged the headlines yet again as he made a controversial statement. He said that AB de Villiers only played for personal records in the Indian T20 League and that anyone would have scored runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. De Villiers made 4452 runs for Bengaluru at a strike rate of 158.33.

“If AB de Villiers plays in a small ground like Chinnaswamy Stadium for 8-10 years, any player might have the same strike rate or ability. So Suresh Raina 4 Indian T20 League titles, unfortunately, de Villiers only personal records,”  Gambhir said in an interaction on Star Sports. Interestingly De Villiers was the second-highest run-getter for Bengaluru with 37 half-centuries and two hundreds for the franchise.

Gambhir has hogged the limelight on social media for his statements about the cricketer. When this statement was made, he took social media by storm and many of the fans had a lot of say about what he said and whether what he portrayed was legitimate or not.

AB de Villiers had played his 100th Test Match at Chinnaswamy Stadium

The former South African captain has called Bengaluru his home on many occasions and he had a rousing reception at the Chinnaswamy where he played his 100th Test match. The right-handed batter has had the better of Dale Steyn, more than once on his home ground, and has won against him in unpredictable situations to provide a lot of joy to the Bengaluru fans. De Villiers had wowed the Bengaluru crowd time and again with his spectacular display of hitting and his 360-degree style of play, which has left the fans of Bengaluru and India aghast.

Meanwhile, the Bengaluru side also brought a Women’s Team for 910 crores INR and that side is led by Smriti Mandhana in the ongoing edition of the Women’s  T20 League.

On the other hand, Kolkata has not been lucky with an Indian T20 league trophy but Gambhir when he shifted to Kolkata from Delhi in 2011 led the purple and gold brigade to two titles in 2012 and 2014, respectively. He also mentored and captained Delhi in earlier seasons and in his last Indian T20 League season in 2016, where he stepped down mid-way to make way for Shreyas Iyer as the skipper of Delhi in 2018.
