Lionel Messi picks his four teams that can lift the FIFA 2022 World Cup Trophy

Veteran footballer, Lionel Messi has been in outstanding form at the FIFA 2022 World Cup. He stole the show in Argentina’s 2-1 win over Australia in the round of 16 fixture in Qatar.

The Argentinian football netted the first goal in the 35th minute to take the lead. Julian Alvarez then scored the second in the 57th minute to help the team register a 2-1 win, eventually.

It is worth mentioning that Lionel Messi’s goal against Australia was his first ever in the knockout stages in the competition. Overall, Messi has scored three goals in this edition and has played a pivotal role in the team’s comeback since the shock defeat in the opener.

The South American country will now be locking horns with the Netherlands in their quarter-final fixture at the Lusail Stadium on Saturday. The latter is coming off an inspiring 3-1 win over USA in their round of 16 fixture, thanks to goals from Memphis Depay, Daley Blind, and Denzel Dumfries.

After qualifying in quarter-finals, Messi picked Argentina, Brazil, France, and Spain as four countries that can lift the World Cup trophy.

“Argentina are one of the candidates. Argentina are a powerhouse and are always among the best. We knew we were one of the candidates, but we had to prove it on the pitch and we proved it again against Australia”, he said.

“Brazil are doing very well, despite the defeat against Cameroon. They are still one of the great favorites. France are also doing well and Spain, despite losing to Japan, are a team that play very well, that are very clear about what they do and it is very difficult to take the ball away from them, as they control possession for a long time. It will be difficult to beat them”, he further added.

Notably, the legendary star didn’t name Portugal among the contenders that can lift the trophy.
