Kane Williamson’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season had to be cut short as he suffered a knee injury. The New Zealander will mostly not make the cut to the 2023 World Cup as well. He played just the first game for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2023 edition. He picked up the injury when he prevented a ball from going for six off Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dasun Shanaka has now replaced him in the GT camp.
Babar Azam took to social media to send a get well soon message to Williamson. Babar captioned the post saying: “Bounce back stronger. Get well soon Kane Williamson”. Babar and Williamson have had great camaraderie over the years. The two have been batting greats for their country across all formats and have also led their and leading their sides in international cricket. Williamson has also played in the Pakistan Super League.
Williamson has appreciated Babar’s batting and specially mentioned Babar’s cover drive and said it is as good as Virat Kohli’s. Babar is one of Pakistan’s best batters in the modern era and is very pleasing to the eye. Williamson recently scored a magnificent Test hundred against Sri Lanka just before the IPL. It was a wonderful century in a nail-biting encounter at Christchurch.
Babar has scored 3,696 runs in Test matches for Pakistan. He has an average of 48.63 and a strike rate of 55.02. The right-hander has made nine hundreds and 26 fifties in the five-day format. When it comes to ODIs, Babar has made 4813 runs. He has an average of 59.41 and a strike rate of 89.03. The Pakistan skipper has made 17 hundreds and 24 fifties in the white ball format.
Williamson played the 2022 season for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He did not have the best of times last year. When he was brought by the Hardik Pandya -led side, he was to slot in the middle order and play the anchor role for GT. Unfortunately, it did not materialise. Williamson has been one of the best utility players in the Indian T20 League and he has shown that he is the go-to man in crisis situations.
