‘Kya Game tha’ – Fans cant catch their breath after thriller between Gujarat and UP in WTL

The UP franchise and the Gujarat franchise squared off against each other in the third match of the Women’s T20 League Gujarat won the toss and chose to bat. Sabbhineni Meghna smashed 24 off 15 balls with five fours to provide a good start to Gujarat. Sophia Dunkley departed after scoring 13 off 11 balls with two fours with the score at 34.

Annabel Sutherland and Meghna departed after that. Gujarat were in trouble at 50-3. There was a much-needed partnership between Sushma Verma who made 9 off 13 balls with one four and Ashleigh Gardner who made 25 off 19 balls with two fours and one six.

Gardner fell with the score at 120-5, Gujarat at one stage looked to finish on a smallish total at the end of their 20 overs. But they found heroes in Dylan Hemalatha who scored a vital unbeaten 21 off 13 balls with two fours and one six. Harleen Deol played an amazing knock of 46 off 32 balls with 7 fours.

Grace Harris played a cracking knock off 59 off 26 balls  to get UP to 175-7 in the chase 

This gave Gujarat the much-needed impetus at the end of their 20 overs where they ended on 169-6 at the end of their 20 overs. The pick of the bowlers for UP were Deepti Sharma who picked up 2-27 off her four overs and Sophie Ecclestone who picked up 2-25 in her four overs.

In the second innings, Gujarat started on a wonderful note with the ball as Kim Garth picked up the wickets of the dangerous Alyssa Healy and Shweta Sherawat and Tahlia McGrath and UP were on the back foot at 20-3. Kiran Navgire steadied the ship with Deepti with a stroke-filled 53 off 43 balls before she was picked up Garth.

Deepti tried to get move on but failed and was dismissed for 11 off 16 balls by Mansi Joshi. Garth also picked up the wicket of Simran Shaikh to round off a five-wicket haul. in her four overs. After a brief while, Sutherland dismissed Devika Vaidya to derail UP to 105-7. It was UP’s game to lose, but from there, something remarkable happened.

In a sudden turnaround, Grace Harris came late and smashed Garth in her last over by hitting 20 runs. She scored 53 off 25 balls with seven fours and two sixes to help UP steal the game by 3 wickets. In the last over bowled by Sutherland, she smashed her for 24 runs.  Ecclestone made 22 off 12 balls with one four and one six to provide good support. UP ended the chase on 175-7.
