The Rishabh Pant-Dinesh Karthik conundrum has been on India’s back right through the Asia Cup. The Indian wicketkeeper’s spot has been a topic of discussion. In the just concluded Australia series, Dinesh Karthik was preferred over Rishabh Pant, and he showed what he was capable of with the bat in the 2nd T20I.
Dinesh Karthik finished it off with a six and a four and brought India to victory. Dinesh Karthik’s resurgence with the bat in hand happened during the 2022 Indian T20 League season where he scored 330 runs at an average of 55 with a strike rate of 183.
A lot of experts have called for Karthik’s inclusion, while some feel that Rishabh Pant should be in the side due to his big hitting abilities and a left-handed option in the middle order.
The latest to have had his say on this burning question is Saba Karim, who is of the opinion that India backing Dinesh Karthik and going ahead with him is a good move and will benefit the men in blue in the coming games.
“There is always a possibility, but I think the Indian team management has decided to go ahead with Dinesh Karthik which is not a bad move. They feel that they need more of his kind of a player at number six who can do the finisher’s role in a much better manner because Rishabh Pant in that kind of particular role has not been tried before and places above that have kind of been sorted. So, I do have my doubts that Rishabh Pant will get a look in because the Indian team has kind of found the right combination,” Karim said.
India are set to play three T20Is against South Africa, starting today.
