Pakistan suffered a shocking defeat in the hands of Zimbabwe as the Men in Green lost to the Chevrons by 1 run in a Group 2 match in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Perth on October 27, Thursday. This happened after they lost to India at the MCG on Sunday in another last-ball encounter.

Babar Azam pinpointed the reason for the loss, and he said the defeat happened due to a poor show put on by the batters. Pakistan with two losses from two games are riding on thin ice when it comes to their chances of qualifying in the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

“Very disappointing performance for my team. We were not up to the mark in the batting,” Babar said in the post-match presentation. “We had a bad first six overs, but Shadab and Shan built a partnership but unfortunately Shadab, out and then back-to-back wickets and pressure built on the batting,” Babar added.

We will not repeat mistakes going  further:  Babar Azam

Pakistan did not get off to the best of starts as they lost Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan early on in the chase, after they were dismissed, No one in Pakistan’s middle order got going except Shaan Masood who scored 44 off 38 balls. He was the glue for Pakistan and held their innings together but when he was dismissed by Sikandar Raza there was no one the Men in Green could depend on.

The chase could not be completed, and Pakistan fell short, The Pakistan middle order conundrum continues as it has failed to deliver more often than not and that has put the Pakistan batting order under pressure.

However, Babar promised that Pakistan will bounce back strongly, and they will not repeat the mistakes that have cost them two games in the tournament so far. “First six overs we are not using the new ball good. Later on, we finished well. We’ll sit together and learn from our mistakes and come back hard next match,” Babar further said.

Pakistan are 5th on the points table and are only ahead of Netherlands due to superior net run rate. They will have to win all their games by a big margin to have any chance of qualification in the 20-20 World Cup.
