Dinesh Karthik has had some memorable stints as a commentator and has done broadcasting duties for Sky Sports in England. He has also done commentary when they played a Test series in England. He is currently commentating for Star Sports at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Karthik had predicted two things ahead of the match. One, Ravindra Jadeja would pick up a five-wicket haul, and that happened Jadeja as he picked up 5-47in his 22-over spell in the first innings, which helped India bundle out the Kangaroos for just 177. He then also put out a tweet that India will bat the whole day on Day 2, which actually happened.
After dismissing Australia for 177 in the first innings, India started on a strong note as Rohit Sharma batted beautifully on the Nagpur Pitch. He started with a half-century and was unbeaten on Day 1. On Day 2, he played a wonderful innings on a turning track, which was of the highest class. He played some wonderful shots and looked assured when he was leaving and defending the ball.
Jadeja picked up a five-wicket haul and India batted the whole of Day 2
He ended up making 120 off 212 balls, with 15 fours and two sixes. This innings was similar to the one that he had played against England in Chennai in 2021. He took India to 229-6. When he was dismissed India were in a spot of bother. But then, Jadeja and Axar Patel got together and bailed out India from a crisis.
Jadeja played stellar innings of 70 off 195 balls, with nine fours, to add to his game-changing five-wicket haul in the first innings. Axar Patel has so far played a knock of 84 off 174 balls, with 10 fours and one six. The two stars from Gujarat took India to a commanding position on Day 2 and gave the side a lead of 144 runs.
Meanwhile, Karthik last played for India in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. He earned a well-deserved comeback in the Indian side on the back of a wonderful show in the India T20 league for Bengaluru in 2022. He made 330 runs from 16 games at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 183.33. But the 20-20 World Cup was not a good tournament for him.
