‘Kuch bhi nahi badla yaar’ – Chennai get their first win in Indian T20 League 2023 by defeating Lucknow in high-scoring match

The Chennai franchise are back to their winning ways in the 2023 Indian T20 League after losing their first game against Gujarat as they defeated the Lucknow franchise by 12 runs in a high-scoring encounter at the Chepauk stadium. Chennai posted a mammoth total of 217 runs for the loss 7 wickets, while Lucknow were restricted to 205 for the loss of 7 wickets despite a good start by the openers.

Batting first, Chennai got a firing start as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put up a partnership of 110 runs in 9.1 overs. Conway got out after scoring 47 runs off 29 balls with five fours and two sixes, while Gaikwad, went on to score his second consecutive half-century of the season, smashing 57 runs off 31 balls with three four and four sixes.

After that, Shivam Dubey also produced some big hits as he got out after scoring 27 off 16, including one four and three sixes. Ambati remained unbeaten on 27 off 14 with two fours and two sixes. Skipper MS Dhoni hit back-to back sixes in the last over and got out by smashing 12 off three balls as Chennai went past 210. Mark Wood and Ravi Bishnoi took 3 wickets each for Lucknow, while Avesh Khan put 1 in his bag.

Lucknow started losing momentum after a firing start

However, Lucknow also got a great start while chasing 218 runs as the skipper KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers added 79 runs for the first wicket in 5.3 overs. Mayers continued his great form but he got out after smashing 53 runs off 22 balls hitting eight fours and two sixes.

Lucknow started losing momentum after losing Mayers and went to lose wickets at regular intervals as Moeen Ali turned out to be the main anchor of Chennai’s bowling by taking 4 wickets in his four overs conceding 26 runs.

Nicholas Pooran tried to take the visitors down the line but he also lost his wicket to Tushar Deshpande after 32 off 18 with two fours and three sixes. At last, Lucknow fell short of 12 runs from Chennai’s total. For Chennai. Moeen Ali scalped 4 wickets, Tushar Deshpande took 2, while Mitchell Santner put 1 in his bag.
