After a successful tour of England, the Men in Blue will now embark on a full white-ball tour to the West Indies. Shikar Dhawan will lead the side in the West Indies for the ODIs. It is pertinent to note that quite a lot of senior players are rested for the ODI series. All the experienced players except Virat Kohli will be returning for the 5 match-T20 series, which will take place right after the conclusion of the ODI series.
KL Rahul, who missed the entire England tour, will also be returning to the white-ball setup. For the unversed, KL Rahul underwent surgery in Germany and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He will go to the West Indies once he is fit and would be looking to get amongst runs before he gets to lead the side in Zimbabwe in the absence of skipper Rohit Sharma.
Reports have claimed that Rahul will lead India in Zimbabwe as Rohit Sharma is expected to take rest. Notably, Rahul has already led the Men in Blue against South Africa during India’s tour to the Rainbow Nation. He was also set to lead the team in the five-match T20I series against South Africa at home but was ruled out of the series on the eve of the 1st T20I against South Africa due to an injury. It was the same injury that kept him out of action for the England tour as well.
The Men in Blue are set to play three ODIs against Zimbabwe, starting August 18. The second match is set to be played on 20 August, followed by the third one on 22 August. All the matches will be played at Harare Sports Club Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed on Tuesday.
